“Who are you?” That’s a question many people have a hard time answering. Most people would agree that in order to find out who someone is, they usually start by looking at their family history. Where their family is from, who their forefathers are, what the generations before them have endured, what they stand for, and what they have accomplished; these are just a few things they take into consideration when trying to analyze their family history. Many people also identify themselves with the titles from their family lineage. If you were born into a family of kings and queens, you would associate yourself as being a princess or a duchess etc. That title alone plays a huge role in how you identify yourself and how you live your life.
If you did not know your parents or other members of your family, you would feel like a piece of your identity is missing, right? You would not feel complete without knowing the history of your family life. Which is why many adopted people seek their biological parents in order to find answers as to who they are.
Throughout the bible, we can see that God is mentioned as our Father. Did you know that 1 Timothy 6:15 states that God is the King of Kings? Once we accept Christ into our lives, we are part of His family. Do you know what that means? It means you are His child. Your bloodline is the same as Jesus Christ the Savior!! You are of a royal lineage and you are extremely important! I was overjoyed when I discovered this many years ago, because I never saw my life as being significant until I knew this truth. I just thought I was an average girl, ordinary in every way.
The truth is, it doesn’t matter who your earthly parents are when you are trying to discover who you are. The bible states that He set you apart before you were even born! “Before you were formed in your mothers womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart…” Jeremiah 1:5. This means that God had you in mind and created you before your parents even knew you existed. He had a plan for your life and specifically knit you together in your mother’s womb. So, in order to discover who you are, you must trace back to your origins in your heavenly Father. Knowing who He is will give you insight as to who you are. You need to know all about Him in order to glean everything that gets passed on His heir. His history, background and everything He endured and accomplished is vital when understanding your identity, who you are and your purpose in life.
Maybe over the years you lost sight of who are you are or stopped caring because of difficult trials. Sadly, many people tend to view the Lord in light of the situations and circumstances that surround them. If things don’t go as they planned, they likely blame God or ask where He is. If things are great, they praise God and have a grateful heart. Many people fall away from the faith and have on again-off again relationships with Him because they don’t truly know their Father, and they forget who they are!
If things in your past have held you back from becoming who you are created to be or even from trusting in God, I encourage you to take a step of faith and remember who you belong to. You are His. He chose you. He doesn’t fall off of His throne. He will be with you through it all and get you through it because He Reigns-yesterday, today and forever. Be confident in who He is and know that He is taking care of everything that concerns you. The earth and everything that is in it belong to Him, so there is nothing too difficult for Him to handle. He is perfect in all of His ways.
Never forget who you are!
You are joint heirs with Christ. You are His child. He called you by name, you are accepted by Him, you are called to be holy and set apart for Him. You are set free. You are a new creation. You are chosen, you are forgiven and you are redeemed. You can do all things through Him. You are alive, and His love casts out any fear in you. You are His elect. You are healed by His stripes. You are made whole in Him, you are loved by Him, and you belong to Him because you are HIS!! This is who you are, it is all part of your DNA and birthright. This is all biblical and recorded for you to remember. That is something to rejoice about!!! Apart from Him, your identity is incomplete and dare I say, meaningless.
As you start this brand new year, walk with your head held high knowing who you are as a child of God. Your Father is good and loves you, be confident in who He is. You were created with purpose for a purpose.
I pray this new year will bring a fresh perspective of your identity in Him so that you can fulfill His plans for your life! You are HIS, never forget that. No matter what happens this year, always trace back to your roots in Him and remember who you belong to. You are a child of the most High God; that’s who you are! You don’t have to strive for that title it is already yours. This is the year, that you need to start acting like a child of the King of Kings; your God given identity!
Much love and blessings!
