“Now in the days of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who reigned from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces”… Esther 1:1
And this is how the story of the Jewish girl Esther begins! As all of us are probably aware, the book of Esther in the Bible is known for not mentioning God by name even once. But, when reading Esther, it is pretty obvious that God’s presence is felt and hinted at throughout the story. Many of you may be living out this very theme, I know I am! This year started out with a mix of supernatural blessings combined with struggle and confusion. What I mean is, my husband and I had been praying for a house, we were very detailed and specific in our request to God, I had also applied to a job in the Region we were looking to buy the house. In His awesome Sovereignty and Grace He gave us a house with everything we asked for, it is a new build, finished basement, curb appeal, all the upgrades—and I got the job! However in the midst of the joys satan was stirring up trouble… the relationships that meant so much to me started to fall apart before my eyes. Everything you can imagine going bad in a relationship began to happen—jealousy, backbiting, misunderstandings. It is possible for the sun to shine through a torrential rain fall, and that is what most of 2016 has been for me…and maybe you.
“…and advanced her and her young women to the best place in the harem” Esther 2:9.
Here begins Esther’s promotion in Ahasuerus’ palace– luxury, comfort, favor were all apart of this orphaned girls journey. Wouldn’t it had been a fairytale ending if that’s how the story finished, quite so in Hollywood. However in the Kingdom of God it is of more importance for His people to acquire blessings on a natural AND spiritual level. I bet Esther never knew how much chutzpah (Yiddish word for shameless audacity) she had until faced with the evil that came through Haman’s plot against the Jews! During the ups and downs of this year, I found myself questioning God as to why all this trouble is happening in the midst of such celebratory blessings…? I felt like I couldn’t even enjoy the new house or job because I was obsessing over how to “make all the wrong right”. Even during tearful prayer I could not get an answer from God! Why God, why so quiet?!
It was during a funeral service while worshipping the Lord the revelation opened my eyes. I need to put my belief in the Presence of God’s control!
“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place… Esther 4:14.”
This scripture is taken from the discussion between Mordecai and Esther after Esther expresses her fear of perishing if she enters the Kings presence without being summoned. Amazingly, Mordecai is confident that the Jewish people will be saved, even if Esther doesn’t do anything! This shows me that Mordecai believes in God’s providence, as there would seem to be no other way to understand this statement. Mordecai’s belief in the providence of God and the strength of His Presence is certainly based on his understanding of the Scriptures. God has always promised to preserve the Jewish people for example Psalms 121:4, Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. In our natural mind Esther would have been the Jewish people’s only hope, but FAITH says 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; FAITH says 1 Peter 1:5, who are protected by the power of God through faith; FAITH says 2 Thessalonians 3:3, But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one…Hallelujah, AMEN!
Dear readers never forget that Jesus has promised His Presence will always be with us. Never get use to a certain way about God, and don’t ever come down on yourselves if you don’t “hear His voice” during times of trials. Don’t forget, His Word speaks for eternity. He is with You, He will most definitely see you through every obstacle that comes your way, He will rejoice with you during times of promotion through worship, and praise and His Mighty Presence will help you live obedient and sacrificial lives in this hostile world. We are promised something far greater then every mountain and storm in our lives – that the God who is in control of all things will work them for our good, so that we will be conformed to the likeness of Yeshua, and ultimately to be glorified with Him in eternity (Rom. 8:28-30).
Take good care,
