Motherhood is one of the highest callings that a woman can experience and walk through. Mothers share unconditional love, patience, nurture, and care for their offspring. Mothers are given the privilege and the blessing to bring life as God intended and created to be. Mothers share a special bond that cannot be replaced. God created mothers to be special and unique. Mothers serve a greater capacity in the kingdom of God as well. They are given the gift of life and God entrusted mothers, and of course fathers, to raise their children in the Godly function.
We are all called to be mothers, although some may choose not to for other reasons or ministerial purpose. However, every woman has a calling to be a mother, spiritual mother, or adopted mother. Being a mother is a very important role that the Lord chooses to give to many women. Motherhood is not a hobby but a calling that God ordained it to be. Mothers are given a special task to raise a generation of world changers. Our society and its views on motherhood has changed drastically. Mothers have somehow conformed to the world views of the world and depend on the views of the society to raise the younger generation. However, it’s important that her identity as a mother is found in Christ alone, to raise her offspring in the fear of the Lord.
As mothers, we need to rely on God’s vision and purpose for our children so that we can guide them to be the people God wanted and created them to be. Most mothers have many roles, and can easily get caught up with the busyness of everyday life. But God gave us children or placed children in our lives for a reason and a purpose. Children are a gift from God, as mothers we need to teach God’s standards to them at a very young age.
Your children are a blessing! psalm 127:3-5 says that children are gift from the Lord, that the fruit of the womb is a reward. This verse might be hard and challenging to understand on the days when our kids are really exhausting and challenging you. However, we have to understand the way God sees our children. They are a gift to you and reward given to you. If you raise your children according to the functions of God, they will be nothing but a blessing to you. When kids turn into a blessing, they also become your reward.
Along with loving and serving the Lord and committing ourselves to His authority, we need to take heed to His commands from Deuteronomy 6:7-9. “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
Biblical truth should be the foundation of your home, by following the principles of these commands, we teach our children that worshipping God should be constant and not just on Sunday mornings.
Proverbs 22:6 states ” train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Children naturally learn a lot from teaching, but they learn so much by watching us as well. Whether it be your home or outdoor environment, be a good example to your children. As children learn best by your examples. This is also important as mothers to observe and acknowledge God daily in their given roles. When we don’t acknowledge God in our lifestyle, we cannot expect children to observe God in their daily walks.
Discipline and instruction are other important aspects of a child’s life as well. Proverbs 13:24 states:
“Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.”
Children who grow undisciplined face many challenges such as rebellious, no respect for authority and even for Gods authority. Discipline is something that needs to be balanced with love. If not practiced, they will grow to be resentful, discouraged, and rebellious. It is painful to discipline a child but it’s also a learning opportunity for children to grow and learn. Therefore, when disciplining a child do it with love and not overly disciplining them to the point of resentful.
It is also important to involve your children in the church family and ministry when they are young. Regularly attending a Bible-believing church and allowing your children to see you studying the Word, and also studying it with them. Discuss with them the world around them as they see it, and teach them about the glory of God through everyday life.
And lastly, pray over your children on a regular basis. We live in a corrupted world where ethics and morals have changed dramatically. As mothers, you are given the task to raise a Godly generation that will become world changers. I urge you to pray for your children, that they will not depart from the ways of the Lord but will always follow and observe His laws all the days of their lives.
Rise up mothers, you have a gift within you to raise an extraordinary children that the world has yet to see.
